The Choice is Yours

Read Psalm 115. Here is a great Psalm with some powerful consequences about praise contrasted with idolatry. First the Psalmist comments on the serious trouble with idolatry. Primarily we become like the very thing, material or immaterial, we worship, v.8. Those idols are so powerful and subtle but they can’t even grunt, v.7. Wonder why we have passive Christians? Could it be that they have an idol problem that has left them idle? However, the Psalmist makes a break when realizing the powerful and loud declaration of God’s blessing and protection.  16 The heavens are the Lord’s heavens,    but the earth he has given to the children of man.17 The dead do not praise the Lord,    nor do any who go down into silence.18 But we will bless the Lord    from this time forth and forevermore.Praise the Lord

I’ve been borrowing a car while mine gets repaired. As I drove around I kept feeling like something just didn’t seem right. A few miles down the road and I realized my sports talk radio wasn’t talking to me. I pushed the power button and the receiver read “Error.” So, I’ve been driving around in silence.

Along the road I’ve been reminded of how precious silence is. That time in the car has been filled with “blah, blah, blah” and the noise quiets other voices; some good and some bad. These past few days I’ve had conversations with God, myself and others. I’ve reflected, repented and rejoiced.

Don’t forget to practice silence for yourself. It is a great gift, Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that Iam God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in teh earth.” In your silence and stillness of a moving car, make the most of it and turn it off for a little while.

Old, New

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

Just thinking as we start the new year 2012 about how the year and calendar days are so old. We’ve seen January 1st before and the 2nd and 3rd and 4th but they are also new. We haven’t seen January 4, 2012. So, while the day may be old and familiar, what unfolds is full of newness, freshness, plans and vision.

As I continue, I’m reminded of God and how He remains unchanged and the same and yet we are constantly drawn to Him and discover new things about Him for ourselves. New to us not new about Him. How great and truly incomprensible for us! Take a few moments and meditate on our God and add a few scriptures, to0.

Psalm 55:19

God, who is enthroned from of old, who does not change— he will hear them and humble them, because they have no fear of God.

Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and  today and forever.

Romans 11:33-36

Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
   How unsearchable his judgments,
and his paths beyond tracing out!
“Who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counselor?”
“Who has ever given to God,
    that God should repay them?”
For from him and through him and for him are all things.
To him be the glory forever! Amen.
