Living the Life

“And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.” Col 1:10-12 (NIV)

Are you living for the audience of one? God wants you to live a life worthy of the Lord. Consider all that Jesus did to purchase your salvation and to provide for your abiding peace. Think about what Jesus did to take care of your forever. You are saved for all eternity. Heaven is your home!

As you live to please God, He desires for you to bear fruit, grow in your knowledge of Him, be strengthened by His might, and perpetually and joyfully give thanks to Him. God has qualified you to participate in the inheritance of the saints. You are blessed and highly favored of the Lord. You are fruitful, you are growing, you are strengthened, and you are joyful in the Lord. As a child of the living God, you have been lavished with His unconditional love.

Make pleasing God the passion of your life. As you trust God daily to provide the strength for Christian living, you will bring pleasure to Him. God loves you and wants you to please Him in every way. Be conscious of His abiding presence. Be alert to opportunities to bear fruit, as you stay connected to Christ. Allow the life of Christ to be evidenced through your life as you do what Jesus did to love God and to serve others.

Worthy is the Lamb!

“Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, ‘Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!’” Revelation 5:11-12 (ESV)

Why is Christ alone worthy to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing? Why is He the object of our worship and that of the elders and angels? What is so special about Him that He is the focus of all of Scripture and the climax of God’s redemptive plan for all things? He is worthy because of how He both communicates and secures the glory of God. Consider this truth for a moment. Jesus communicates the glory of God, pictured beautifully in chapter 4 of Revelation. In this chapter, John presents the best of creation surrounding the Lord and responding in worship. God in all of His glory far outshines the greatest collection of the best we have to offer, making Him a worthy object of our affection, and Jesus embodies this truth. Jesus is the incarnate glory of God, revealing to us His nature and His beautiful plan of redemption.

Further, Christ is worthy of our affection and ultimate blessings because of how He secures the glory of God as preeminent by becoming the only source of salvation for creation. Christ’s worth is only amplified by His sacrifice, as the saints proclaim that because of His “blood” that was poured out for the people of God, He is worthy to “take the scroll and to open its seals” (Rev 5:9 ESV). Without His sanctifying work, the glory of God would have demanded our expulsion; yet, because of His work, the glory of God becomes a source of both praise and purpose.

This morning, consider the glory of God and the worth of Christ in making that a source of hope for you rather than a cause for fear. Consider further the power of Christ in your life to remove the seals and secure your salvation. Do not seek to save yourself in your own strength; rather, turn to Him today, behold His glory, and be satisfied.

Bearing Fruit

“And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.” Col 1:10-12 (NIV)

As you invest your time, energy, and resources, consider what matters most. Does it matter how much you acquire during your brief stay on the earth? Does it matter how many trips you make to distant lands? Does it matter how many accolades you receive from others? If not, then what really matters?

The answer is: living a life worthy of the Lord and pleasing to Him. That’s what matters most! Now you can give your life to that. You can wisely invest your time, resources, and energy to that ultimate pursuit. What does that look like? That kind of life involves bearing fruit, growing spiritually, operating in His power, enduring patiently, and giving thanks joyfully.

Take personal inventory. What are you giving your life to? Are you living a life worthy of the Lord? Is your life laser focused on pleasing God? If not, why not?

Begin making adjustments in your time allocation, your energy allocation, and your allocation of resources to bring your life into alignment with God’s priorities. It’s not about comfort; it’s all about life change!
