A People for His Own Possession

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” 1 Peter 2:9-10 (ESV)

We have been saved individually, yes, but we have also been saved for a purpose. We have been called to be reconciled to Christ, but we have further been called to be a part of a people, a people fashioned by God for the purposes of God. We are being formed into a royal priesthood to mediate the presence of God upon the earth, interceding for its people. We are being formed into a holy nation, not confined to a geopolitical location but rooted together in the Spirit of God. We are being formed into a people for His own possession, personifying His communicable attributes and displaying His redemptive plan in us for the world to see. We are being formed into a people whose sole purpose is to proclaim the marvelous excellencies of God!

What an incredible privilege it is to be the people of God. We are simply called to brag on this God Who has so radically saved us. The beautiful thing about our calling is that the marvelous excellencies of God never run out. He exists infinitely, meaning there is no limit to all that He is. His goodness is infinite. His love is infinite. His mercy is infinite, and because of this truth, we should never want for material to proclaim.

You have been saved to be a part of a proclaiming people. Today, look back over this past year and see how God has been faithful to you, and as you map out His faithfulness take time to proclaim His marvelous excellencies as displayed in your life as part of this redeemed people.

The Rhythm of God’s Love

He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him. Psalm 40:3 (ESV)

What is your life song? Has God put a new song in your mouth? As children of God, we have the life transforming message of Jesus. If the blood of Jesus has redeemed you, then you have a song to sing. It does not matter how musically inclined you are. What matters is that you have a song to sing! Your life in Christ is a song that others will observe.

Will others see and revere Jesus because of your life song? Will others place their trust in Jesus as a result of the song that your life sings? God has given us the wonderful and awesome privilege to be the tangible portrait of His grace on this planet. The conversations and interactions that you engage in on a daily basis are chords that vibrate the rhythm of God’s love.

When you study the life of Jesus you will notice that Jesus maximized the opportunities presented to Him each day. Jesus lived a life that radiated the love of God. People were drawn to Jesus because His life song declared the magnitude of God’s abundant grace and mercy.

Maybe you are in a season currently that has inhibited the song in your mouth. Maybe you have not had a song to sing due to hurt, anger, or disappointment. Ask God to renew your mind and to renew your strength. Ask God to put a new song in your mouth to help you persevere and experience a breakthrough. God knows right where you are and exactly what you need.

Being a Megaphone for the Master

“For not only has the word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything.” 1 Thessalonians 1:8 (ESV)

One of the features of a High School football game is the cheer squad. The cheerleaders seek to engage the fans in the stands in order to motivate them to cheer on the team. Regardless of the score, the cheerleaders seek to get the fans involved in the game in a positive manner. Often the cheerleaders utilize a megaphone to project their cheers and to amplify their message.

God has transformed your life by His grace so that you can become a megaphone to amplify the Good News of Jesus Christ. That’s right! You are a megaphone for the Master! The message of Christ is to project from your life and from your lips. Are you encouraging people to get into the game? Are you sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with those in your sphere of influence?

The church at Thessalonica became a megaphone for the Master. The Lord’s message sounded forth like a blaring trumpet and like rolling thunder. The church boldly and continually trumpeted the gospel message. Their faith in God was not a secret to be concealed, but a glorious reality to be revealed.

God did not transform your life so that you could hide your Christian walk. God did not deliver you from the kingdom of darkness and place you in the kingdom of light so that you could become a silent saint. You have been saved by the grace of God to become a megaphone for the Maker of heaven and earth. Your faith in God is to be projected for others to encounter the redeeming love of Christ.

Go public with your faith. Let others hear your personal testimony. Share your spiritual story and live out the gospel.

The Enemy Has Been Defeated!

“And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, ‘Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.’” Revelation 12:10-11 (ESV)

We have been promised certain victory over our enemy and his instruments of sin and death. Yes, Satan was cast out of heaven and given the potential for power here on the earth, and, yes, we in our selfishness rebelled with Him, becoming as guilty as he before the Lord. Yet, when Christ came, He ushered in a new era of promise upon the earth, laying waste to the powers of the evil one and providing for all of creation a glimpse of the glory that is to come in His resurrection from the dead. Christ will overcome every effect of Satan’s reign; He will destroy every effect of sin and the sting of death. He has given us hope beyond this life and a certain purpose while living it.

The Church of the living God is empowered to defeat the enemy of God. If we know Christ’s resurrection and His second coming to be true, then we must also recognize the power at work within us, further guaranteeing the fulfillment of today’s verses that we through the blood of Christ and the word of our testimony will permanently send the enemy and his powers and principalities to their eternal place of worship in judgment.

Take heart, dear friend, today, remembering that in Christ you are more than a conqueror! You have guaranteed victory in Him, and as you find that victory and testify to His faithfulness, slowly and surely you are binding Satan’s abilities on the earth and pushing forward the freedom found in the Kingdom of God. Therefore, walk in victory today, because your enemy has been defeated.
